Romania marks Holocaust Remembrance Day with historical commemorations
In observance of Holocaust Remembrance Day in Romania, officials and cultural institutions are holding events to honor victims and preserve historical memory. At Cotroceni Palace, Nicușor Dan emphasized the necessity of understanding and accepting history, warning against the danger of scapegoating minority groups for societal failures. He highlighted the vital role of schools and survivor testimonies in educating younger generations about past atrocities.
To mark the 85th anniversary of the deportations to Transnistria, the National Museum of Bukovina has launched a documentary exhibition titled ‘Testimonies and Destinies.’ The exhibit uses documents, photographs, and testimonies to detail the experiences of thousands of Jews from Bessarabia and Bukovina who were deported under Romanian administration. The collection also recognizes historical figures, such as Queen Elena and Traian Popovici, who contributed to saving lives during this period.
