Moldova to grant 1,000 lei monthly aid to 1,328 students after school reorganizations

The Moldovan government approved on 24 June 2026 a amendment to the Regulation on school‑reorganisation allowances. Under the new rule, 1,328 pupils who will be transferred to other schools as part of a restructuring of 73 institutions will receive a monthly stipend of 1,000 lei for two consecutive academic years (nine months each), beginning in the 2026‑2027 school year. The total cost of the scheme is estimated at 23.9 million lei.

Education Minister Dan Perciun said the allowance is intended to offset the extra transport costs and effort for families, noting that most affected children will travel less than 10 km to their new schools. The reform will see ten schools closed, the remaining 63 reorganised into primary schools or combined primary‑kindergarten centres. Transport expenses will be covered by the Ministry of Education’s central budget and the schools’ own funds, without additional state outlays.

The measure follows the publication of the regulatory change in the Official Gazette and is part of a broader effort to improve the quality of education while managing the school network efficiently.
