Romania and Moldova report drone-related incidents near borders

In the early hours of October 10, Romanian authorities issued two RO-Alert warnings to residents of northern Tulcea county after military radar detected two aerial targets in Ukrainian airspace near the border. The first target was located approximately 20 kilometers north of Periprava, and the second was detected near Chilia, about 15 kilometers east of Vâlcove. In response, two Spanish F-18 aircraft deployed from Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base 57 to conduct enhanced air policing. The Romanian Ministry of National Defense confirmed that no incursions into Romanian airspace occurred during these incidents.

Simultaneously, in Moldova, a drone crashed and exploded in a forest near the village of Jămăna in the Anenii Noi District. Local police and bomb disposal teams responded to the scene after residents reported hearing an explosion. Authorities identified the impact site in a tree approximately 13 meters high. Specialists have since deactivated the explosive component of the device to prevent further risk. While national surveillance systems did not record unauthorized border crossings, the incident occurred amidst ongoing regional tensions related to the conflict in Ukraine.
