Romania moves ahead on A8 highway with new contracts and 50% construction

The National Company of Road Investments (CNIR) received 14 offers to supervise the design and execution of section 4 of the A8 highway between Târgu Neamț, Iași and Ungheni. The contract, valued at about 55 million lei, will run for 110 months covering 46 months of design and construction and a 60‑month guarantee period. The consortiums include firms such as TPF Engineering, Consitrans, EGIS Romania and several international partnerships. CNIR also announced a separate contract with the Italian consortium ITINERA SPA‑ICM S.P.A. to build the Prut River bridge at Ungheni, part of the 15.5‑km stretch funded by the SAFE program, which will feature 14 bridges, two tunnels and two road nodes.

Separately, Transport Minister Horațiu Cosma reported that the first lot of the A8 (the Târgu Mureș‑Miercurea Nirajului segment) has reached roughly 50 % physical completion. He indicated that the opening of this section could occur in 2027, marking a significant milestone for the overall highway project.
