Romania orders 12 Airbus H225M military helicopters

Romania has signed a contract to purchase 12 Airbus H225M multi-role military helicopters to modernize its Air Force. The agreement, valued at approximately 757 million euros, was finalized through the French Directorate General of Armaments (DGA) as part of the European Commission’s Security Action for Europe (SAFE) program.

The new H225M fleet is intended to replace Romania’s existing IAR-330 Puma helicopters, which are locally produced under license. These new aircraft will support both conventional military missions and special operations.

The deal is expected to strengthen Romania’s industrial capabilities through a long-standing partnership with IAR, the country’s sole helicopter manufacturer. The SAFE program aims to accelerate operational readiness and support the European defense industry by addressing critical capability gaps.
