Romania pension increases projected to resume in 2027
Under current Romanian pension legislation, pension increases are expected to resume in 2027 following a two-year freeze. The Reference Point Value (VPR), which has been maintained at 81 lei throughout 2025 and 2026, is scheduled for an update based on economic indicators.
The magnitude of the increase will depend on a legal formula that accounts for the average annual inflation rate and 50% of the real growth in the average gross wage. While official percentages are not yet set, public estimates suggest a potential increase of approximately 7% to 8%.
If the VPR increases, pension amounts will rise proportionally to the number of points held by the recipient. For instance, a 7% increase could raise the VPR to roughly 86.67 lei, while an 8% increase could bring it to approximately 87.48 lei.
