Romania pension updates: early retirement guidance and legislative challenges

In Romania, pension authorities are providing guidance on early retirement procedures and addressing legislative complexities regarding income documentation.

The Alba County Pension House has noted that while women applying for early retirement are not strictly required to submit their children's birth certificates, doing so is highly recommended. Under Law no. 360/2023, these documents can facilitate a reduction in the standard retirement age and influence the duration for which early retirement benefits are subject to reduction.

Separately, Doina Pârcălabu, the former head of the National Pension House, has criticized current legislation for being overly complex. She highlighted difficulties faced by retirees attempting to obtain non-permanent income certificates from archives to increase their pensions. Pârcălabu attributed these issues to the transition between different database management systems and the lack of rigorous historical records during Romania's economic transitions.
