Romania positions itself as a regional energy hub through infrastructure investments
Romania is strengthening its role as a strategic energy player in Central and Eastern Europe through significant investments in natural gas transport infrastructure. The national operator, Transgaz, has invested approximately 3 billion euros in its networks, creating the technical foundations for the country to become an authentic regional energy hub.
These strategic projects aim to facilitate the transit of gas from the Black Sea basin and other alternative sources to neighboring markets, including Moldova, Ukraine, Hungary, and Bulgaria. This expansion is intended to diversify supply sources for regional markets, enhance national energy security, and reduce dependence on Russian imports.
Simultaneously, the Romanian solar energy market is experiencing growth, supported by favorable geographic conditions and government policies aligned with the European Green Deal. While the country has an installed solar capacity of approximately 1.5 GW, the sector faces challenges regarding the dependence on Chinese technology and raw materials, such as silicon and lithium. New market solutions, like the YellowGrid platform, are emerging to help users monetize surplus solar energy and optimize consumption.
