Romania proposes license invalidation for driving against traffic
A new legislative proposal in Romania aims to significantly increase penalties for drivers who travel against the flow of traffic on highways or expressways. Under the proposed law 2026/B532, instead of the current 120-day license suspension, violators would face permanent invalidation of their driving licenses.
Drivers whose licenses are invalidated under this rule would be prohibited from applying for a new license for three years. Additionally, offenders would face fines categorized under the fourth penalty class, which could range from approximately 1,946 to 4,325 lei based on current penalty point values.
