Romania proposes support measures for youth under 26

New measures in Romania aim to provide financial and fiscal support for young people under the age of 26.

Youths exiting the special protection system may receive a monthly allowance if they are under 26 and can prove they are either studying or employed. This right extends to those who have already left the system, provided they meet specific criteria and apply within designated timeframes. Those currently under protection can continue receiving support until age 26 if they pursue studies. Once a person chooses to exit the protection system to receive this allowance, they cannot re-enter the special protection system.

Additionally, a legislative proposal seeks to expand tax exemptions for part-time workers under 26. Currently, social contribution exemptions for part-time contracts are limited to students and pupils. The proposed change to the Fiscal Code would remove the requirement to be enrolled in an educational institution, applying the exemption to all young people up to age 26. Proponents argue this will reduce disproportionate costs for employers and help young people who are not currently in school find employment.
