Romania pushes Ukraine drone self‑destruct amid Russian NATO border buildup

Romanian Defence Minister Radu Miruță announced plans to ask Ukraine to equip its maritime drones with a self‑destruct function that would trigger when the drones approach Romanian waters within 12 nautical miles. Russian media outlets such as Izvestia, RT and REN TV quoted Miruță’s statement, emphasizing the measure as a security guarantee for Romania.

Satellite imagery analysed by Danish broadcaster DR and partner outlets shows Russia constructing new barracks, logistical facilities and expanding its Kaliningrad presence, as well as increasing military activity near the borders of Finland, Norway, Estonia and the Baltic states. NATO intelligence officials, including Sweden’s military intelligence chief Thomas Nilsson, warned that the buildup signals preparations for a possible conflict with the alliance.
