Romania receives first five Alstom Traxx electric locomotives
The Authority for Railway Reform (ARF) in Romania received the first five of a 16‑unit order of Alstom Traxx electric locomotives, announced by State Secretary for Transport Horațiu Cosma. The contract, worth 767 million lei (excluding VAT), includes delivery and 20 years of maintenance financed from the Modernisation Fund.
The Traxx units can reach 200 km/h, generate 6.4 MW of power and haul up to 16 passenger wagons. The initial units will operate on CFR Călători services between Bucharest‑Suceava and Bucharest‑Iași, with the remaining locomotives slated for routes such as Dej‑Brașov‑Bucharest‑Constanța, Timișoara‑Arad‑Brașov‑Bucharest‑Constanța, Timișoara‑Cluj‑Iași, and others later this year.
