Romania records 40°C in Săcuieni as heatwave triggers red alert

On Monday at 15:00, the town of Săcuieni in Bihor County recorded a temperature of 40 °C, the highest measured across Romania. The National Meteorological Administration (ANM) reported a perceived temperature of 44 °C for Săcuieni. Nearby cities also experienced extreme heat: Oradea and Satu Mare measured 38 °C with perceived values of 43 °C and 42 °C respectively, while Bucharest’s Filaret and Băneasa stations recorded 36 °C, perceived at 43 °C and 42 °C.

Almost the entire country was placed under a red‑code heat alert, with forecasts of maximum temperatures reaching up to 41 °C and tropical nights expected to stay between 17 °C and 25 °C. ANM continuously updates both measured and perceived temperature maps as the heatwave persists.
