Romania registers 64,850 new cars in H1 2026, Dacia stays top brand

In the first six months of 2026, Romanian vehicle registrations reached 64,850 new cars, a modest 0.8% rise compared with the same period in 2025. June alone saw 16,120 new registrations, up 51.9% year‑on‑year. Dacia retained its leading position with 11,686 units, followed by Toyota (6,761) and Skoda (5,474). Full‑electric models grew sharply to 5,522 units (+72.5%) while hybrids rose 17.5% to 37,563 units.

The total vehicle fleet in Romania topped 11.2 million at the end of 2025. Second‑hand cars continue to dominate the market, with 474,962 used vehicles registered for the first time in 2025 compared with 227,261 new‑car registrations. The average age of Romanian cars is 15.6 years, well above the EU average of 12.7 years, contributing to higher repair and insurance costs for owners.
