Romania school director competition results spark controversy
Following the first stage of the 2026 school director competition in Romania, several educators have reacted to the results. Nationally, the promotion rate stood at 69.05% before appeals, with 2,069 candidates failing to meet the required score.
In Suceava, 201 candidates passed while 75 were eliminated, representing a 27% rejection rate. Ciprian Anton, the Suceava County School Inspector, addressed the candidates, stating that an exam does not define a person's professional value or leadership capacity. He urged educators not to make impulsive decisions and announced that he would not accept any resignations until the competition is finalized.
In Bucharest, Andreia Bodea, director of the ‘I. L. Caragiale’ National College, announced her intention to end her teaching career after failing the competency test. Bodea criticized the exam's structure, arguing that the 60-minute time limit was insufficient to process the 20 items, which were spread across six pages of small text. She suggested the format disproportionately benefits candidates in exact sciences.
