Romania school violence incidents spark investigations

Authorities in Romania are investigating multiple incidents of violence and extremist threats within schools. In Muntenii de Jos, a 56-year-old teacher was found to have a knife in his bag after school leadership alerted the police. The teacher reportedly claimed he brought the weapon for “self-defense” against students.

In a separate, high-profile case in Bistrița, a 13-year-old student was detained after stabbing a mathematics teacher and a classmate on October 19. Investigations revealed the teenager had authored a 60-page online manifesto expressing neo-Nazi beliefs and racial hatred, including plans to target non-white individuals and commit further acts of violence. Discussions regarding the Bistrița attack have highlighted concerns over the radicalization of youth and the failure of institutions to act on warning signs.
