Romania scrambles F-16 jets after radar detects aerial target near Galați
On the morning of Friday, September 25, 2026, the Romanian Ministry of National Defence (MApN) detected an aerial target approximately 20 kilometers east of Galați using radar surveillance systems.
In response, two F-16 aircraft from the Romanian Air Force, stationed at Borcea Air Base 86, were scrambled to monitor the situation. The National Military Command Center coordinated with the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations to issue RO-Alert messages to residents in eastern Galați and northern Tulcea counties.
According to official statements from MApN, the target did not enter Romanian airspace, and no incursions were reported during the incident.
