Romania recovers drone debris and explosives along Black Sea coast

On September 11 and 12, multiple incidents involving drone debris and unauthorized airspace incursions occurred near the Romanian border and along the Black Sea coast.

In the coastal regions of Constanța and Tulcea, authorities recovered several drone fragments. Some of these pieces, including an interceptor drone found near Edighiol-Periboina, contained explosive charges. Specialist EOD teams and the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) successfully neutralized the identified explosives. Other fragments found on beaches in Tulcea and in the Black Sea near Midia were determined to be non-explosive.

Separately, a drone entered the airspace of Moldova from Ukraine, leading to a temporary closure of Moldovan airspace and affecting regional flights. This drone subsequently crossed into Romania and crashed in a cornfield near Botoșenița Mare, Suceava. The impact caused a small fire and a shallow crater, but no casualties were reported. In response to the incursion, the Romanian Air Force scrambled two F-16 fighter jets from the Borcea Air Base, and a RO-Alert was issued for Botoșani county.
