Romania secures twelve Thales GM200 MM/A radars from France

Romania's General Directorate for Armaments has signed a government‑to‑government contract with France's Direction Générale de l’Armement to acquire twelve Thales Ground Master 200 Multi‑Mission All‑in‑One (GM200 MM/A) radars for an investment of €247 million. The medium‑range 4D AESA radar can detect and track targets from low‑flying drones to high‑altitude aircraft and missiles up to 350 km, and includes surface surveillance, weapon coordination and RAM (rocket, artillery, mortar) warning functions. The first unit is scheduled for delivery to the Romanian Army in 2027, with the full suite to be integrated into the national defence network.

The deal, funded under the European Union’s SAFE programme, reinforces the defence partnership between Romania and France and contributes to strengthening NATO’s eastern flank. Thales will also establish a Radar Competence Centre in Romania to support industrial capacity and expertise in the radar domain.
