Romania Senate to adopt law targeting special pension beneficiaries
The Romanian Senate is expected to adopt a draft law targeting special pension beneficiaries who continue to hold positions within state structures. The measure would require these individuals to relinquish 85% of the income targeted by the regulation.
The legislative initiative has faced delays due to disputes regarding which categories should be exempt. While some politicians sought to expand the list of exceptions, others pushed for broader application. Following negotiations, the current draft maintains exemptions for local elected officials and individuals holding mandates explicitly provided for in the Constitution, such as members of Parliament, the President, and judges of the Constitutional Court.
