Romania shoots down third Russian drone in three days, summons envoy

Romanian Air Force F‑16 fighters shot down three unmanned aerial vehicles in three consecutive days – Friday, Saturday and Sunday – after radar detected the objects near the Black Sea and the Danube Delta. The drones were identified as Shahed‑type craft used by Russia in its war against Ukraine. President Nicușor Dan said the violations were “unacceptable and intolerable” and summoned Russia’s ambassador to Bucharest. Defence Minister Radu Miruta stressed that Romania’s airspace is also NATO and EU airspace. NATO and U.S. officials condemned the incursions, describing them as a test of alliance defenses. The incidents follow earlier drone‑related events, including a strike on an apartment block in Galaţi and a maritime drone explosion in Constanţa port, and investigations into the three recent shoot‑downs are ongoing.
