Romania solar capacity projected to exceed 10,000 MW by 2027
Romania is experiencing rapid growth in its solar energy sector, with industry officials projecting that installed solar capacity—including parks and prosumers—will reach approximately 10,000 MW by the beginning of 2027. Irene Mihai, Policy Director at the Romanian Photovoltaic Industry Association (RPIA), noted that current estimates suggest the country could reach 11 GW by the end of this year, potentially exceeding the targets set in the National Integrated Energy and Environment Plan (PNIESC).
In a related development for grid stability, Eurowind Energy Romania has completed a 120 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) at its Teiuș site in Alba County. The project, representing a 21 million euro investment supported by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), utilizes lithium iron phosphate (LFP) technology to absorb surplus energy and deliver it to the grid as needed. Eurowind Energy aims to install 1 GW of capacity in Romania by 2030.
