Romania Starts Major Bridge Rehabilitation Works in Bucharest and Sibiu

The Bucharest City Hall has awarded a 57 million‑lei contract to the Infra Expert‑Unitip Global consortium to carry out essential rehabilitation of the Basarab Bridge. Works include full resurfacing, replacement of corroded structural components, drainage system renewal and protective anti‑corrosion treatments, with traffic already limited to one lane.

In Sibiu, the municipal council signed a 5.18 million‑lei contract with Strabag SRL to restore the historic Maria Tereza Bridge. Over a six‑month period the project will reinforce the bridge’s structure, relocate gas and water lines, repair the roadway and sidewalks, and install modern architectural lighting, improving access for cars, pedestrians and cyclists.

Both projects are funded from local budgets and aim to preserve historic infrastructure while enhancing urban mobility and safety.
