Romania to establish dedicated drone testing zones

The Romanian Civil Aeronautical Authority (AACR) has initiated steps to establish criteria for authorizing unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) testing zones within Romania. This initiative aims to allow the testing of new technologies within a clear and regulated framework to support industry innovation while ensuring the safety of other airspace users and people on the ground.

These testing zones would consist of delimited airspace that can be restricted and activated upon request. Authorization requirements will depend on the specific characteristics of the drones being tested, risk management procedures for incidents, and separation protocols from piloted aircraft and populated areas. Additionally, the framework will include measures for cybersecurity and data protection, with particular attention given to high-risk UAS systems.
