Romania to implement OECD adult skills assessments

The Romanian government has approved participation in the PIAAC international program, developed by the OECD, to assess adult skills. Managed by the Ministry of Education, the evaluation will target individuals between the ages of 16 and 65.

The assessment focuses on practical, real-world competencies, including reading comprehension, mathematical calculation, and adaptive problem-solving. These skills are measured through scenarios relevant to family life, work, and social environments, such as navigating routes or interpreting instructional texts.

Testing will be conducted via a sampling method where operators visit selected households with tablets, similar to a census process. The evaluation aims to determine how well citizens manage daily tasks and unexpected situations regardless of their education or occupation.
