Romania to launch first AI infrastructure project
Romania is launching its first artificial intelligence infrastructure project, known as RO AI Factory. The initiative, led by the National Institute for Computer Science and Technology (ICI Bucharest) in collaboration with the National University of Science and Technology Politehnica Bucharest, aims to provide high-performance computing infrastructure and technical support for AI integration.
The project officially commenced on September 1, 2026, following agreements with the European Commission. The investment for equipment is expected to reach tens of millions of euros, with the Romanian state covering costs related to personnel and energy. The facility is intended to increase AI adoption across government, business, and economic sectors, with full functionality anticipated by mid-2025. An international tender is scheduled to take place by the end of 2026.
