Romania to provide 300 euro per hectare subsidy to potato farmers
Over 2,500 potato farmers in Romania are set to receive financial support of 300 euros per hectare following the completion of field inspections. The program, managed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR), aims to stimulate domestic production and reduce the country's reliance on imports from other European Union member states.
Interim Agriculture Minister Tanczos Barna announced that the support scheme has been resumed after a one-year hiatus. The initiative covers more than 12,000 hectares. While the minister noted that the ministry had initially proposed higher subsidies of 700 to 800 euros per hectare, he described the current 300 euro allocation as a positive step for the sector.
The government approved the de minimis aid scheme for edible potato production with a total budget of 26.625 million lei. To receive the payments, producers must now demonstrate the utilization of their production.
