Romania to receive 1.1 million vaccines for sheep and goats

Romania is set to receive 1.1 million vaccine doses from the European Commission to combat sheep and goat diseases, specifically sheep and goat smallpox and peste des petits ruminants (PPR). The shipment, which includes 800,000 doses for smallpox and 300,000 for PPR, is expected to arrive following the activation of the EU's vaccine banks.

Interim Agriculture Minister Tanczos Barna noted that while assurances were received in early September, the doses have not yet been delivered. Romanian authorities have finalized arrangements for receiving the shipment and are prepared to launch an emergency vaccination campaign immediately upon arrival. To avoid logistical complications, the government delayed separate procurement procedures until the specific vaccine types from the EU bank were confirmed.
