Romania traffic regulations: fines for emergency lane use and improper parking

Drivers in Romania face significant penalties for violating specific traffic and parking regulations under the 2026 Road Code.

Using the emergency lane to bypass traffic congestion is strictly prohibited. Such actions can result in fines ranging from 1,946.25 to 4,325 lei and a 90-day driver's license suspension. The emergency lane must remain clear for authorized emergency vehicles, including ambulances, fire services, and police.

Additionally, drivers must ensure vehicles are properly immobilized when parked on public roads. Failure to engage the handbrake, turn off the engine, or use the correct gear (or 'P' position for automatic transmissions) can lead to fines between 865 and 1,081.25 lei, along with penalty points. These measures are intended to prevent vehicles from moving accidentally and causing damage to pedestrians or other objects.
