Romania updates high school curriculum with digital tools and AI
Romania is implementing a significant update to its high school educational materials, marking the first major overhaul of textbooks in over two decades. The new curriculum incorporates modern technology and updated content, including lessons on artificial intelligence and a return to formal grammar instruction in Romanian language classes.
The new textbooks feature QR codes that link students to digital resources, such as interactive atlases for geography, historical films for history, and supplementary digital materials. This approach aims to move away from rote memorization toward interactive learning. In physics, the curriculum has been updated to include fluid mechanics, focusing on practical applications.
In addition to updated print materials, schools are increasingly integrating advanced technology into the classroom. Supported by PNRR funding, many institutions have received smartboards, laptops, and VR goggles. Some schools are also offering robotics electives, where students learn to build and program modular kits and robotic arms using coding languages like Scratch.
