Romania Urges Faster EU Drone Defence System After Airspace Incursions

Romanian MEP Mihai Tudose said the European Parliament and Council have expressed solidarity with Romania over recent drone incursions, but the current EU detection and defence systems are inadequate. He highlighted a resolution adopted in the European Parliament that calls for an accelerated European Drone Defence Initiative, aiming to have functional systems before the end of next year. The resolution also urges the construction and renovation of civil anti‑aircraft shelters, civil‑defence drills for citizens, and integration of command systems along the eastern flank from the Arctic to the Black Sea.

Tudose stressed the need for rapid concrete action to protect civilians and critical infrastructure, noting that the Council’s recent conclusions also support accelerating the Eastern Flank Surveillance programme.
