Romania urges NATO to boost Black Sea defense after drone attacks

Romania has asked NATO to reinforce defence on the alliance’s eastern flank following two high‑profile drone incidents. A drone crashed into a residential building in Galaţi, injuring people, and a sea drone exploded in the port of Constanţa. The events were raised at a North Atlantic Council meeting focused on Black Sea security. NATO responded that it will adapt its posture, enhancing surveillance and air‑defence by deploying additional radars and drone‑interception systems. A NATO spokesperson said the alliance is committed to defending “every inch of allied territory” as the war in Ukraine generates more drone threats along the eastern frontier.

Romanian officials, including the permanent representative to NATO, emphasised the need for constant dialogue and coordination with allies to protect civilians and strategic infrastructure in the region.
