Romania Urges Self-Destruct Feature for Ukrainian Maritime Drones after Constanta Blast

Romania’s Defence Minister Radu Miruta called on Kyiv to programme a default self‑destruct function for its sea drones, activating when control is lost and the device is 12 nautical miles from the Romanian coast. “Maritime drones must be programmed so that, if control is lost, they are unable to enter Romanian territorial waters and will self‑destruct once they are 12 nautical miles from the coast,” Miruta said. Ukrainian naval officials blamed Russian electronic jamming for the loss of control. The incident adds to at least 11 similar incursions of Ukrainian drones into NATO territory reported since March, prompting wider safety concerns within the alliance.
