Romania weather alert: Torrential rains and storms expected

Romania is bracing for a significant shift in weather conditions from Friday, September 11, through Sunday, September 13. Following a period of high temperatures, meteorologists have issued warnings for torrential rains, wind gusts, and isolated hail.

Starting Friday evening, atmospheric instability is expected to affect the western, northern, and central regions, including Transylvania. Forecasts predict heavy rainfall with accumulations between 15 and 25 liters per square meter in short intervals, with some areas potentially exceeding 30-40 l/mp. Wind gusts may reach speeds of 50-60 km/h, accompanied by electrical discharges and small hail measuring 1-2 centimeters in diameter.

In specific regions like Satu Mare, the transition will be particularly sharp. After reaching temperatures near 30 degrees Celsius on Friday under a yellow heat alert, temperatures are expected to drop significantly on Saturday, with maximums falling to approximately 18 degrees Celsius and occasional rain. Conditions are projected to stabilize by Sunday with clearer skies and temperatures rising back to around 22 degrees Celsius.
