Romania weather alerts: Torrential rains and flood risks

Romania is facing significant weather instability, with the National Meteorological Administration (ANM) issuing warnings for torrential rains, thunderstorms, and wind gusts across various regions. The alerts, valid through September 3, target areas including Moldova, northern Muntenia, southern and eastern regions, and mountainous zones. Expected phenomena include heavy rainfall of 10–30 l/mp in short intervals, electrical discharges, and small hail.

Additionally, the National Institute of Hydrology and Water Management (INHGA) has issued a yellow code for flooding on the tributaries of the Trotuș River, warning of rapid runoff and rising water levels.

Despite the storms, temperatures are expected to remain above seasonal averages for much of September, particularly in the west and southwest, as summer-like conditions persist across the country.
