Romanian agriculture requires 1 billion lei in support by 2026

The Romanian agricultural sector requires at least 1 billion lei by the end of 2026 to ensure necessary support measures can be fully funded. Vice Premier and interim Minister of Agriculture Tánczos Barna has indicated that current available funds are insufficient to cover all required payments.

A primary concern is the full reimbursement of the diesel excise tax reduction for the second quarter. While the government recently approved an increase of 149.366 million lei to the scheme—raising the budget from 714.3 million lei to 863.666 million lei—this supplement only allows for partial payments for the April–June period.

To ensure farmers receive their full entitlements for diesel used in crop production, livestock, and land improvements, a formal budget rectification will be necessary. Payments are managed through the Agency for Payments and Intervention in Agriculture (APIA).
