Romanian airlines add new European destinations

Wizz Air announced two new scheduled routes from Bucharest’s Otopeni Airport to Almería in Spain and Dubrovnik in Croatia. While expanding its network, the low‑cost carrier said it will not pursue an aggressive route‑opening strategy in the short term, preferring to increase frequencies and capacity on existing connections. Jan Meijer, Wizz Air’s commercial director, said the airline is balancing the network to build resilience and reliability. The carrier highlighted that the Romanian market now accounts for about half of its regional traffic and marked its 20‑year presence in the country.

AnimaWings, a fully Romanian airline, launched its first direct services from Timișoara to Rotterdam (Netherlands) and Copenhagen (Denmark). The flights, operating twice weekly from 15 July, aim to serve business travellers, city‑break tourists and the Romanian diaspora in northern Europe. CEO Marius Pandel said the routes strengthen the strategic role of Timișoara Airport and bring major European economic hubs closer to western Romania.
