Romanian and Moldovan authorities seize cannabis in coordinated drug busts
Police in Satu Mare County, Romania, arrested a 31‑year‑old suspect who attempted to smuggle 38 kg of cannabis through the former Petea border crossing. The drugs were hidden in the ceiling of a van and packed in over 100 bags. Prosecutors have ordered the suspect's preventive detention for 30 days pending further proceedings.
In Soroca, Moldova, the National Investigation Inspectorate and local police dismantled an organized drug‑trafficking group operating in the north of the country. Over six months, investigators carried out 23 raids on homes, vehicles and a meat‑product shop, seizing marijuana, hashish, makeshift consumption devices, high‑precision scales and SIM cards. Three suspects were detained for 72 hours, and the criminal case remains under investigation.
