Moldovan Firefighters Deploy to Greece for EU Forest‑Fire Support Mission
A contingent of 24 firefighters from the Republic of Moldova's General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) was dispatched to the Salonica region of Greece on 14 July 2026. The team, equipped with seven specialised technical units, will operate under the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism until 1 August, conducting patrols, monitoring high‑risk areas and assisting Greek authorities in combating forest fires.
This deployment marks Moldova's third consecutive year and fourth overall participation in EU‑coordinated fire‑fighting missions in Greece. Officials highlighted the opportunity for experience exchange with other European crews and reaffirmed Moldova's commitment to the EU civil‑protection family. Inga Borș, head of IGSU’s Intervention Organisation Directorate, noted that the team was carefully selected and fully prepared for the mission.
