Romanian and Moldovan police crackdown on traffic violations

In Sibiu County, Romania, police carried out intensive road‑safety operations from June 5‑7, issuing more than 747 traffic fines, seizing 23 driver’s licences and withdrawing 48 vehicle registrations. The fines totalled over 227,000 lei. Notable cases included a 40‑year‑old driver caught driving with a suspended licence who crashed into a building while heavily intoxicated (blood‑alcohol level 1.09 mg/L), and a 19‑year‑old caught using false licence plates.

In the Ungheni district of Moldova, local police documented several road‑law breaches in the villages of Semeni and Petrești, reporting drivers operating without licences and vehicles lacking proper registration. These actions are part of a broader nationwide effort to enforce traffic rules.

Both countries report a surge in enforcement actions aimed at reducing drunk‑driving, unlicensed driving, speeding and other violations.
