Romanian AUR's Electoral Support Stabilizes as PSD Declines
A recent ARP poll shows the nationalist Alliance for the Unity of Romanians (AUR) maintaining roughly one‑third of voter support, even as inequality measures in Romania have improved. Analysts note the paradox that AUR’s rise occurred while income disparity fell.
Political scientist Andrei Țăranu argues that the Social Democratic Party (PSD) is in “the brink of disappearance,” losing its traditional electorate and local administrative influence. He adds that AUR has likely reached its maximum electoral potential—around 44% in the presidential race—and is unlikely to grow further, while PSD’s decline continues amid weakened party structures.
