Romanian authorities arrest five members of Buricea clan in Brăila
The Bucharest Court of Appeal approved DIICOT's request and ordered preventive detention of five suspects linked to the Buricea clan, a criminal group that has operated in Brăila since 2021. The detainees are investigated for forming an organized crime group and for a range of serious offenses, including attempted qualified murder, extortion, human‑trafficking, prostitution, money‑laundering and other violent crimes.
DIICOT disclosed that the investigation, led by a 50‑year‑old figure, uncovered coordinated violent activities across Brăila and the neighboring Galaţi county. On 16 July, DIICOT agents and police carried out dozens of raids in the two counties, including a penitentiary facility, before the arrests were executed.
