Romanian authorities arrest two drug traffickers in Timișoara and Ilfov

Police and DIICOT investigators in Timișoara detained a 27‑year‑old man and a 43‑year‑old woman on 23‑24 June 2026. The man was accused of trafficking high‑risk drugs such as crystal (3‑CMC) and MDMA, while the woman was charged with distributing synthetic cannabinoids and other psychoactive substances, including MDMB‑BUTINACA and related compounds. Searches uncovered multiple batches of these substances and led to a 30‑day preventive detention for both suspects.

In a separate operation in Ilfov, DIICOT agents intercepted two men while they were collecting a delivery package from a courier firm. Inside a thermal backpack used for food delivery, officers found less than 4 kg of prohibited psychoactive substances that had been imported from the Netherlands earlier in the month. The alleged ringleader received a 30‑day preventive arrest, while the other suspect was placed under house arrest.

Both cases illustrate ongoing Romanian efforts to dismantle networks supplying dangerous synthetic drugs to the domestic market.
