Romanian auto market rebounds, Dacia closes gap with BMW

In the first half of 2026 Romania registered 236,126 vehicles, with used cars still dominating (72.5%) but the new‑car segment showing clear recovery. June recorded the strongest monthly sales of the year, with 43,461 registrations, including 16,120 new cars – a near‑60% increase over April. Dacia posted 23,278 registrations, narrowing the distance to BMW to just 126 units (BMW 23,404), and remains the leader among new‑car buyers. Chinese makers, particularly BYD, are also gaining ground in the electric‑vehicle market.

A separate ranking of the most expensive cars registered in June highlights a niche of high‑end purchases. The list is led by a Mercedes‑AMG G63 4×4 priced at €300,000, followed by several Ferraris – the 296 GTS (€320,000), 296 Speciale (€370,000), and others – as well as a Lamborghini Temerario at €340,000. These luxury registrations illustrate a small but notable segment of affluent buyers within the broader market recovery.
