Romanian Border Police fines travelers, hosts Frontex delegation
In the past 24 hours, the Romanian Border Police processed roughly 88,700 people and 15,900 vehicles at the country’s external borders with Serbia, Moldova, Ukraine and at maritime and air entry points. The force carried out more than 16,600 electronic checks, identified 81 illegal acts (46 crimes and 35 contraventions), issued fines worth 98,900 lei and seized goods valued at over 421,400 lei. It also denied entry to 28 foreign nationals and prevented one Romanian citizen from leaving the country for legal reasons.
From 6‑8 July 2026, the agency hosted a working visit by Frontex’s Board President Alexander Fritsch, accompanied by German liaison officer Bernd Kaiser. Meetings at the General Inspectorate, the Operational Coordination Center, the ETIAS unit and the Coast Guard focused on strengthening institutional cooperation, operational coordination and capacity building for the EU’s integrated external border management system.
