Romanian Border Police Report Surge in Crossings and Illegal Infractions

Between 24 and 26 July 2026, Romania’s border police recorded roughly 121,100 persons and over 21,200 vehicles passing through its external frontiers with Serbia, Moldova and Ukraine. On the inbound side, 58,320 individuals and 10,259 vehicles entered Romania, including more than 15 million Ukrainian citizens who have been subject to controls since February 2022. In the same period, officers performed over 16,200 electronic checks via the eDAC system and identified 105 illegal acts (41 crimes and 64 contraventions), issuing fines totalling 40,634 lei and seizing goods worth several million lei.

At the neighbouring Sculeni crossing in Moldova, traffic was reported as unusually heavy on the outbound lane, prompting officials to advise travellers to consider alternative routes. The congestion reflects the broader regional flow of people and transport linked to the heightened activity at Romania’s borders.
