Romanian Border Police reports 92,000 crossings and seizes illegal goods amid visa fraud case

On 19 June 2026 the Romanian Border Police recorded the processing of around 92,000 persons and more than 15,600 vehicles at the country's external borders, including Serbia, Moldova and Ukraine. The agency performed over 14,200 checks in the eDAC system, identified 81 illegal acts (38 crimes and 43 contraventions), imposed fines totaling 20,820 lei, and seized goods worth over 50,000 lei. It also denied entry to 36 foreign nationals and prevented the departure of 15 Romanian citizens for legal reasons.

Separately, on 17 June 2026 border officers at the Stamora‑Moravița crossing stopped a 50‑year‑old Chinese citizen attempting to enter Romania with a falsified Schengen visa. Database checks revealed an Italian alert requesting his return and a five‑year ban from the Schengen area. Romanian authorities opened a criminal investigation for forgery, use of a false document and attempted illegal border crossing, and have proposed extending the Schengen ban for another five years.
