Romanian border police seize counterfeit shoes, clothes and 50,000 cigarettes worth over 115,000 lei

On 19 June, Romanian border police at the Siret crossing, together with customs inspectors, stopped a Ukrainian‑registered minibus traveling Turkey–Romania–Ukraine and discovered 28 pairs of shoes and 391 clothing items bearing well‑known brand logos but lacking provenance documents. The suspected counterfeit merchandise was valued at about 40,750 lei.

Later the same day, officers of the Giurgiu Territorial Border Police, during a joint anti‑piracy operation, inspected a minibus on the Bulgaria–Romania–Hungary–Austria route and uncovered hidden compartments containing 34,600 cigarettes with Bulgarian tax stamps (≈51,900 lei). A separate bus traveling Turkey–Romania yielded another 16,200 untaxed cigarettes (≈24,300 lei). In total, more than 50,000 cigarettes worth roughly 76,200 lei were seized.

Combined, the seizures total over 115,000 lei in counterfeit and smuggled goods. The cases have been forwarded to the police crime unit for investigation under Romanian anti‑counterfeit and cigarette‑smuggling legislation.
