Romanian brothers arrested in Romania after nine‑year hunt for Italy drug‑trafficking case

Two Romanian brothers, aged 43 and 38, were detained in Romania following a coordinated operation between the Perugia prosecutor’s office in Italy and international police. The brothers had been the subject of a European arrest warrant issued for the execution of a final conviction for drug trafficking and the circulation of counterfeit money, and had been missing since February 2017.

Investigators uncovered 684 g of marijuana packed into over a thousand individual doses and about 25 g of cocaine divided into 28 doses, along with counterfeit €500 and €200 notes. The pair are currently serving a residual sentence of two years and seven months and remain in Romanian custody pending extradition to Italy under EU legal procedures.
