Romanian cities push forward major road modernization projects

In Târgu Mureș, the Nicolae Bălcescu street is close to completing its modernization. The works have restored historic stone‑paving, laid the first binder layer on the carriageway and are moving to the final surfacing, marking, and parking‑lane installation phases. Mayor Zoltán Soós highlighted the blend of heritage preservation with upgraded safety and functionality for drivers and pedestrians.

In Zalău, authorities have begun the hand‑over of the site for an extensive urban mobility corridor covering Titulescu, Coșbuc and the Park streets. The project, funded by the North‑West Regional Development Agency with EU regional development funds, will install two asphalt layers, relocate medium‑voltage lines underground, upgrade drainage, replace gas and sewage utilities, and install a modern public‑lighting network. Execution is set to start on 15 July 2026, aiming to improve traffic flow, safety and the overall quality of urban life.
